• We must receive your submitted online application, payment of application fees (if applicable), official transcripts, and any program-specific required documentation by the application deadline.
• KPSAHS is under no obligation to accept incomplete applications, receive official transcripts or other required documents, or accept application fee payments after application deadline for any reason

All KPSAHS certificate programs require applicants to meet the following minimum criteria and successful completion of program-specific prerequisites:

• 18 years of age or older
• Applicants must possess a high school diploma or pass a high school equivalency examination approved by the California Department of Education Higher-level degrees (AS, BA, MBA, etc.) will not be accepted for certificate programs.
• Achieve a Wonderlic Scholastic Level Exam (SLE) score of 15 or higher as administered by KPSAHS

Application Fee:

Payment of a $65.00 application fee is required for the following programs and payment must be made no later than the application deadline.

• Bone Densitometry
• Phlebotomy
• Medical Assisting does not require payment of an application fee for 2024 program starts

Application Process:

• All minimum requirements, program prerequisite requirements, and payment of application fees (if applicable) must be met during the application period for each program.
• Official transcripts, and any additional documents required as part of the application for the specific program, must be received by KPSAHS by the application deadline.

Official Transcripts:

• Certificate programs do NOT accept higher-level degrees (AS, BA, MBA, etc.)
• Foreign official high school transcripts must be evaluated/translated.
• Official high school transcripts or proof of passing a high school equivalency examination approved by the California Department of Education, must come directly from the issuing school or agency.

REQUIRED ENGLISH LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY/TOEFL:

• Applicants demonstrate high school level proficiency in the English language by completing secondary education or postsecondary, advanced, or professional degrees in a country where English is identified as the official/native language.

BONE DENSITOMETRY (Certificate) PROGRAM PREREQUISITES

Phlebotomy Program Prerequisites

All KPSAHS bachelor’s degree programs require completion of an AA or AS degree, payment of a $65.00 application fee, proof of in-person job shadowing or completion of the Job Shadowing Writing Assignment, and successful completion of program-specific prerequisite courses. Minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average requirements vary by program.

MINIMUM DEGREE REQUIREMENT:

If you are applying to a KPSAHS bachelor’s degree program, you must have already earned a minimum of an AA or AS (or higher degree) at an institution approved by a regional, national, or specialized accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. (AAS and AOS degrees do not meet this requirement.)

CUMULATIVE GPA:

Your cumulative GPA must meet the minimum GPA requirement for your program of choice. A CGPA is calculated by weighing the CGPAs from each institution attended by credits earned and adjusting for the difference between semester and quarter credits (1.0 semester credit = 1.5 quarter credits). Calculations will be made based on all official transcripts submitted.

APPLICATION FEE:

All bachelor’s degree programs require payment of a $65 application fee at the time of application.

JOB SHADOWING:

Job shadowing is required for all bachelor’s degree programs. There are two options available to satisfy the job shadowing requirement and applicants are welcome to choose either option. (Note: KPSAHS does not provide applicants with assistance in securing opportunities for in-person job shadowing.)

Option 1: In-person Job Shadowing:


• Complete a minimum of eight hours of job shadowing in the modality (abdominal sonography, cardiac sonography, nuclear medicine, and/or radiologic technology) for which the student is applying.
• All job shadowing documentation must include the dates and times job shadowing was completed and bear the original signature or e-signature of a department supervisor (i.e., lead technologist, department manager) to meet this requirement. Facsimile copies are not acceptable.

PREREQUISITE COURSES AND REQUIREMENTS:

Prerequisite coursework for all bachelor’s degree programs must meet all of these requirements and must be completed PRIOR to applying:


• College-level and a minimum of 3 semester or 4 quarter credits
• Completed with a grade of C- (or higher) or a “Credit/Pass” grade In-progress coursework will NOT be accepted
• Some prerequisite course requirements may be met by achieving the minimum passing score on Advanced Placement Exams
• A list of College Board (collegeboard.org) Advanced Placement (AP) exams and score requirements is located in the KPSAHS Catalog under Prerequisite Course Requirements (Bachelor’s Degrees Only), Advanced Placement (AP) Examinations.

Radiologic Technology Program Prerequisites - Day Track

Nuclear Medicine Technology Program Prerequisites

• Cumulative GPA of 2.50 or higher

  • Chemistry (with a laboratory)
  • Human Anatomy & Physiology (two courses required) *
  • Physics (recommended topics include Kinematics, Newton’s Laws, and Atomic Laws)
  • Written Communication
  • Mathematics (course must be applicable to a degree)
• Recommended (not Required) Courses:
  • Medical Terminology
  • Oral Communication (i.e., Speech)

 

* This could be fulfilled by one of two course combinations:

• Course combination #1. Anatomy with Lab PLUS Physiology with Lab, OR
• Course combination #2. Anatomy & Physiology I with Lab PLUS Anatomy & Physiology II with Lab

If you are applying to the KPSAHS Master of Science in Counseling, , Marriage & Family Therapy program you must have already earned a BA or BS (or higher degree) from a regionally accredited institution before you apply and your cumulative GPA must meet the minimum GPA requirement.

The Counseling program also requires applicants to submit a written essay. Requirements for the essay can be found at Admissions Essay Master of Science in Counseling.

Prerequisites (MS in Counseling, , Marriage & Family Therapy Concentration):

• Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher
  • The Cumulative GPA will be calculated based on the last 60 semester (or 90 quarter) units of the most recently completed bachelor’s degree
  • For those who have completed a graduate degree, Cumulative GPA will be calculated solely on the most recently completed graduate degree
  • Provide explanation and clarity in your personal essay if your GPA was less than 3.0
• Applicants are required to provide Admissions with the name and contact information of two individuals who can serve as professional references. (Note: Family members and friends should not be used as a reference). (Click on the link provided to access the online KPSAHS Master of Science in Counseling - Professional References and Campus Preference form.) Applicants should consider individuals who are familiar with their work, academic abilities, or potential for scholarship and professional development.
• Resume or Curriculum Vitae (CV)
• Three-to-five-page essay (double-spaced) with the following elements:
  • How your background, relationships, and experiences contribute to your interest in becoming a counselor
  • Your personal and professional goals
  • Describe your experiences with people with diverse and intersecting identities (e.g., age, race, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, religion, gender, sexual orientation, physical and mental abilities, etc.). Include how these experiences have shaped your self-awareness and perspectives about others
  • Challenges you anticipate in your education and training as a counselor
  • Provide explanation and clarity in your personal essay if your GPA was less than 3.0

Effective May 5, 2020, applicants to all programs may submit their Official Transcripts electronically or by U.S. Mail.

How to Submit Your Official Transcripts Electronically

• Contact your high school, college, or university to have your official transcripts sent electronically to KPSAHS. KPSAHS accepts electronic versions of transcripts sent through transcript service providers ONLY (i.e., Parchment, our partner provider, National Student Clearinghouse, Transcripts Network, etc.). Transcripts sent directly from applicants will NOT be accepted.

• If the transcript delivery service asks you to provide an email address to send your transcripts to, please use KPSAHS-transcripts@kp.org.

How to Submit Your Official Transcripts by Mail

• Printed copies of Official Transcripts must be received in their original sealed envelope. Transcripts may be sent by U.S. Mail ONLY to:

Foreign Transcripts

• Transcripts from foreign institutions must be translated into English (if necessary) and evaluated by a member of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services. Evaluation should include program level of study, credit hours (specifying quarter or semester credits), and GPA. Upon receipt of the official transcript, transcript translation, and transcript evaluation, KPSAHS will assess both the eligibility of units and applicability to an academic program as defined in this policy. The cost associated with any transcript evaluation is the responsibility of the student.

Verifying Receipt of Your Official Transcript(s)

• Once your Official Transcript(s) have been received, either electronically or by mail, Admissions will upload a copy to your online account where you will be able to view them in your document center. Please allow a minimum of two weeks after the close of the application deadline for KPSAHS to process and upload your transcripts.

Required English Proficiency

Some students may need to submit TOEFL scores as evidence they have met the KPSAHS Required English Proficiency policy. Refer to the KPSAHS Academic Catalogfor detailed information.

How to Submit Your TOEFL Scores

If TOEFL® scores are required to meet the English Language Proficiency requirements, KPSAHS prefers that scores be submitted electronically through the Educational Testing Service (ETS); our code number is D077.
