For the first seven weeks of the program class will meet three days a week, eight hours a day. Days and times may vary per quarter. The last four weeks of the program will be in the clinical setting on a full-time basis (Monday - Friday, eight hours each day).

The program is 11 weeks (3 months) long. This program provides education for individuals seeking a career in the clinical or laboratory setting as a California Certified Phlebotomy Technician I (CPT I). The 320-hour basic certified CPT I Program provides 80 hours theory didactic, 80 hours in-class practicum, and 160 hours in a clinical rotation.

Program participants can expect substantial off-campus study in preparation for classroom training.

Phlebotomy students do their clinical training at Kaiser Permanente facilities. The exact location will be determined before clinical experience begins. We attempt to place students at a laboratory close to their resident, however, we do not guarantee locations or areas.

Once we receive a completed application, we will email the applicant and provide them with instructions to send in their documents (i.e., high school transcript, CPR, immunizations).

KPSAHS offers limited tuition assistance to students who have demonstrated need and who have completed all prerequisites for admission. This assistance is offered on a first come, first served basis when funds are available. Funds may used for satisfaction of KPSAHS tuition and fees only.

KPSAHS does not guarantee employment. You will be provided the opportunity to work closely with our Director of Career Services who will help with resume building, interviewing, and providing job leads.

KPSAHS is accredited by the WASC Senior College and University Commision (WSCUC). Our Phlebotomy program is approved by the California Department of Health, Laboratory Field Services.

The Wonderlic exam is a short, timed cognitive ability test. It includes questions on simple math, basic logic, language comprehension, spatial reasoning, and pattern identification. More information, and practice tests, can be found on the Wonderlic Test Prep website.

Applicants must have a complete application on file to be eligible to sit for the Wonderlic exam (i.e., all required supporting documents, transcripts, and fees have been received by Admissions prior to the application deadline).

Applicants who are eligible to sit for the Wonderlic exam will be contacted by a representative from the Admissions department. An email will be sent with instruction on how take the exam online.

The primary responsibilities for the Certified Phlebotomy Technician I involve venipuncture, skin puncture, specimen processing, and patient registration.
