Gary Huang, MD (he/him)

Gary Huang, MD (he/him) is a board-certified child, adolescent and adult psychiatrist with over 16 years of clinical and leadership experience. He is passionate about teaching, cultural diversity and mentorship, and is active in Physician Health and Wellness at Kaiser.

Outside of teaching at the KPSAHS’s Masters in Counseling Program, Gary currently works as a child and adolescent psychiatrist at Kaiser San Mateo, part of Kaiser Redwood City Medical Center, after having worked at Kaiser San Francisco for 12 years where he was the Assistant Chief of the psychiatry department. He is also an Assistant Clinical Professor in the Psychiatry Department at Stanford University and acts as the site director for Stanford child psychiatry fellows during their Intensive Outpatient Program rotation. He mentors psychiatry trainees in the Mentorship Initiative for Diversity and Inclusion program at Stanford. In addition, Gary also currently supervises residents for the San Mateo County Behavioral Health Psychiatry Residency Program during their child psychiatry rotation at Kaiser.

In the past, Gary has taught UCSF medical students as a small group facilitator and as a preceptor during their longitudinal integrated clerkship at Kaiser San Francisco. During his Triple Board residency training at the University of Hawaii, Gary also participated in international medical education cultural exchange with SunKyunKwan University Medical School in Seoul, South Korea. He has also presented at the First World Congress of Cultural Psychiatry in Beijing, China during residency training.

Gary received his Bachelor of Science in Psychobiology from Yale University and Medical Doctor (MD) from the University of Cincinnati. Outside of clinical work, he enjoys playing violin and traveling.
