Lawrence Hamilton, Executive Vice President of Performance, The Permanente Medical Group

 
As The Permanente Medical Group’s (TPMG) Executive Vice President of Performance, Lawrence Hamilton is the administrative leader focused on systematically turning our strategy into high performance by advancing learning and continuous performance improvement. He is a member of TPMG’s executive team with oversight and support of the Medical Group Administrators and Regional Administrative Leaders, as well as executive accountability for TPMG Employee HR, including Labor Relations, Employee Wellness, Equity, Inclusion, and Diversity (EID), TPMG Nursing & Clinical Practice, KP School of Allied Health Sciences, and TPMG Consulting Services.

Hamilton has served in leadership roles at regional and local levels, in Kaiser Permanente’s Northern California and in Mid-Atlantic regions for the medical group and Kaiser Foundation Health Plan. He joined Kaiser Permanente in 2005 as the Regional Director of Cardiac and Renal Services. In 2012 he was promoted to Medical Group Administrator for KP Santa Clara, and then assumed the same role for KP East Bay. In 2020 Hamilton moved to the Mid-Atlantic when he took on the role of Chief Operating Officer for Kaiser Foundation Health Plan.

Prior to his work at KP, Hamilton spent five years in Tanzania as the CEO of Aga Khan Health Service. Before that, he worked in the United Kingdom with the National Health Service (NHS) as Deputy CEO of North West London NHS Hospitals Trust, and was partner of a health care consulting company. Hamilton received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees at the University of Oxford in Philosophy, Politics, and Economics. He completed the UK NHS Administrative Fellowship, the INSEAD Advanced Management Program, and the Harvard Business School Executive Leadership Program.
